May is shaping up to be a cracking month for design in London. In this article we look forward to some of the highlights…
From 3-7 May is London Craft Week, an annual event that showcases exceptional craftsmanship through a ‘journey-of-discovery’ programme featuring hidden workshops and unknown makers alongside celebrated masters, famous studios, galleries, shops and luxury brands.
Towards the end of the month (May 23-25) it’s the legendary Clerkenwell Design Week. There are supposedly a greater density of creative studios in Clerkenwell than anywhere else in the world. Possibly the entire universe. This independent design festival sees many of them open their doors to host interesting events which celebrate London’s wonderfully diverse design culture. At 18 Degrees we are especially looking forward to participating in a quick-fire rave at SODA all about the role of design in creating mood and atmosphere for performances (May 24, 6:30 – 8:30, Compton Courtyard, 40 Compton Street, EC1V 0BD).
And sandwiched between these events is the Retail Design Expo (Olympia, 8-9 May) which has become the definitive annual expo for retail designers and architects working within the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors. We are looking forward to seeing the latest technologies and gear as well as checking out the conference programme.
So strap yourselves in and stay tuned for updates from some of these events over the course of the month.
