18 Degrees worked with client Argent to design the lighting to the facade of 3 Pancras Square in London’s King’s Cross.
The building is designed by Porphyrios Associates, the practice that jointly created the King’s Cross masterplan. It has stunning views across the canal to Granary Square and to St Pancras Clock Tower. The building houses approximately 158,000 sq ft over 10 floors and is let to the media giant Havas.
Given the prominent location within the masterplan of the King’s Cross development, it is one of the few buildings within the precinct that has a facade lighting treatment. As with many of our projects, the objective is to provide illumination to the building and for the lighting equipment to be hidden from view. The design process involved selecting light fixtures with very precise optical performance which were positioned very carefully to render them invisible from normal view.
The result is an elegant and timeless lighting treatment to the facade. One observer stated that the building looks like it has always been there on the night time King’s Cross skyline. We take that as a compliment.
